Edward Alexander Bouchet Doctoral Scholars Fellowship
The Edward Alexander Bouchet Doctoral Scholars Fellowship program is awarded to new Ph.D. students who are also new to the Graduate School. It is designed to recruit academically talented students with an interest in college or university teaching. Students may pursue Ph.D. studies in the Arts & Humanities and Social & Behavioral Science disciplines at Howard University. The Edward Alexander Bouchet award is offered on a competitive basis upon recommendation by the candidate's prospective department chair and the Financial Aid Advisory Committee.
Candidates must be first time applicants to the Graduate School at Howard University in all disciplines. Howard University Graduate School admissions applications to Ph.D. programs for the Fall semester must be submitted prior to the Edward Alexander Bouchet deadline. The minimum cumulative GPA requirement from the applicant's current or most recently attended institution is 3.5.
Full remission of tuition (not including student activity fees) and a stipend of $24,000 for the fall and spring semesters. Successful applicants will be offered the award for one year and must hold a master's degree.
Edward Alexander Bouchet Doctoral Scholars are required to: (1) participate in a 15-hour per week supervised research assignment during each academic year; (2) maintain a GPA of 3.5 and above; (3) submit an outlined written approval by their advisors on required assignment for the academic year; (4) take part in the Graduate School's Annual Research Day; (5) participate in Preparing Future Faculty (PFF) and (6) not hold outside employment.

- Research Writing Sample: demonstrate your writing and research skills. (10-12 pages/12pt font)
- Statement of Research Interest: articulate your research interests and anticipate your research agenda in the Ph.D. program at Howard. (4-6 pages/12 font)
- Statement of Professorial Career Goals: express your interests in joining the professoriate upon competition of the Ph.D. (4-6 pages/12pt font)
- Three names and email addresses of faculty who will provide letters of reference for you and who can speak to readiness to pursue the Ph.D. and your commitment to joining the professoriate. Faculty must send letters of reference directly to email@example.com.

Submit single file PDF application to firstname.lastname@example.org no later than 5:00 p.m. EST on Friday, January 13, 2023. Late and incomplete applications will not be reviewed.
List the names of 3-faculty who can speak to your readiness to pursue the Ph.D. and your commitment to joining the professoriates that are willing to write a recommendation letter on behalf. All recommendations from the faculty should be sent to: GraduateSchool@Howard.edu. The Recommendation Letters must be submitted separately by the close of business Friday, January 20, 2023.
If applications are late or incomplete for any reason (i.e., not completely filled out or missing required documents, etc.) they will not be reviewed by the Financial Aid Advisory Committee.
Applications will be reviewed by the Financial Aid Advisory Committee and recommended to the Dean for approval. Applicants will be notified upon the Dean's approval.
