Alliance for Graduate Education and the Professoriate
The HU-AGEP alliance is built on a solid foundation of lessons learned from two successful partnerships, the HUTEP AGEP Alliance (Howard University and the University of Texas at El Paso) and the BWA-AGEP Alliance (Howard University, Morgan State University and Georgetown University). HU-AGEP continues the legacy of increasing underrepresented minority Ph.D. enrollment, graduation and preparation of students for faculty careers in the science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) disciplines. Our success in achieving these goals is exemplified by the low attrition rates of students participating in the HU-AGEP Program and the large numbers of minority faculty production which far exceeds the national average.
The major Goals HU-AGEP are isomorphic to those of NSF in diversifying the professoriate and include the following:
- Increase the number of URM in STEM fields
- Increase the number of URM in STEM Post-doc positions
- Increase the number of URM STEM Faculty
- Expand the range of doctoral opportunities for URM students
- Decrease time-to degree completion of STEM students Enhance sense of STEM community engagement
