Pre-faculty Internships

The pre-faculty internship provides an advanced PFF fellow with the opportunity to experience faculty life at another college or university while working on their doctoral dissertation for up to one year.

During this internship, PFF fellows may teach up to 3 courses per year (no more than 2 course preparations) at an institution, advise undergraduate students, attend departmental faculty meetings, serve on university or departmental committees, and conduct research, while completing their dissertations. Students should have defended their dissertation proposals and be at the writing stage before interning at a partner institution. These experiences vary across institutions; however, PFF fellows completing an internship at these institutions will have a teaching mentor and an academic (dissertation) mentor.

The following institutions have formal or pending agreements with Howard University to place PFF fellows in selected departments. The disciplines may vary from year to year.
