This fall, Howard alum and former Ambassador, Dr. Candice Pitts, was appointed Belize City's Administrator. Having served as a Belize City Councilwoman for three years prior, Pitts witnessed firsthand both the challenges and the opportunities that exist within Belize's largest municipality. That experience deepened her commitment to public service and strengthened her belief that good governance can meaningfully improve people’s lives.

"When the opportunity arose to serve as City Administrator, I saw it as a natural continuation of that journey, and as an opportunity to combine my academic preparation, leadership experiences (garnered as an educator, political leader, and diplomat), and passion for community development in a role that can shape lasting and sustainable change and development. I was inspired by the Council’s current vision of building a city administration rooted in engagement, collaboration, and innovation, and one that reflects truly the needs and aspirations of our Belize City residents," says Pitts.

As City Administrator, Pitts' objective is straightforward—to continue the effective and impactful work of the Mayor and his team, and to maintain the efficiency, transparency, and people-centeredness of the Council.

"My long-term aim is to help position our city as a model of sustainable development, innovation, and inclusive progress—a place where good governance translates into real, everyday benefits for our Belize City residents," observes Pitts.
