Every semester has its own tenor. This one is no different. It is different, however, in the sense that this period of political uncertainty brings real challenges to our institution and the broader landscape of higher education. I want to acknowledge the concern that many of you are feeling as we navigate potential changes in funding and support for research universities. During times like these, it is easy to feel uncertain about the future, but I want to assure you that we will remain resilient, as we always have.

Our university is built on the strength of its community—innovative faculty, engaged students, committed staff, and a dedicated alumni network. The political climate may shift, but our commitment to academic excellence and transformative research will not waver. The work we do together has always transcended the immediate challenges of the moment, shaping the future in ways that are far-reaching and impactful.

Although funding may fluctuate and circumstances may leave us feeling uncertain, it is our solidarity that will continue to inspire us. We will continue to find creative ways to sustain our work. In these trying times, I encourage each of you to continue your work with the same passion and commitment that has defined our academic community. The contributions you make, both individually and collectively, will continue to have a profound impact on society, and I have no doubt that we will emerge from this period even stronger.

Let us stand together, united in our commitment to research and academic excellence that has helped us weathered the storms behind us and the storms ahead.
