Be ready to surpass your patients' needs and advance the speech-language pathology field at Howard. In the M.S. in Speech-Language Pathology program, you'll work alongside experienced clinicians to make a difference in the lives of your speech, language, or hearing patients.

In the Master of Science (M.S.) in Speech-Language Pathology program at Howard's Graduate School, you'll make a difference in the lives of children and adults as you help provide speech and language services to patients whose speech, language, or hearing is affected by developmental delays, neurogenic conditions, autism, brain injury, and other factors. You'll hone these skills through supervised clinical practicum experiences in various settings, working alongside clinicians at Howard's Speech and Hearing Clinic or our partner schools, hospitals, early intervention and community clinics, and private practice settings throughout the D.C. Area. Our clinical coordinators will guide you in finding clinical placements that meet your career goals. Our clinical partners recognize the extra level of attention and care our students put into patient care and look forward to working with our students. We offer a traditional two-year M.S. program track for students with a background in speech or hearing sciences and a three-year M.S. program track for students with backgrounds in another field. You may choose four areas of specialization: education, bilingual, medical, or technology. You'll learn about the mechanisms underlying human speech, language, and hearing and explore the latest technological advancements in the field, so you are prepared to meet the clinical certification standards needed for entry-level practice as a speech-language pathologist. Our faculty have diverse expertise in the areas of early intervention, aural rehabilitation, central auditory processing, autism disorders, fluency, neurogenic disorders, and brain injuries, among other areas. Our program is accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (CAA) of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).
