Dr. Bryan Jenkins (’22 PhD, Communication and Media Studies) on receiving the Broadcast Education Association’s (BEA) 2023 Harwood Dissertation Award for “Doing Black Podcast Studies: Exploring the Black Oral Tradition and Critical Media Literacy in Alternative Media.”
Dr. Tabia Pope (’18 PhD, Communication Sciences) recently delivered the welcome message at the Second Annual Head to Speech Interprofessional Task Force Summit in Washington, DC.
Graduate Students
Congrats to Graduate Certificate Program in International Studies grad students for successfully debating their Draft Resolutions at this month’s Washington Model Organization American States (W-MOAS): Esther Eugene, Joseph K Williams, Darnell Davis, Kelvin Mbi, Brea Brown, Tyler Holt, Madison Oberg, Krystal Patrick, and Maneesh Pandeya.
Clinical psychology doctoral student Marcy Beutlich was selected as a Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) Health Professional Scholarship Program (HPSP) recipient for the 2023-2024 academic year. HPSP scholars receive 100% tuition, a monthly cost-of-living stipend, and an annual expense/book stipend from the Department of VA in exchange for a 2-year service commitment.
Pharmacy doctoral student Omotola Ogundipe has been selected to participate in the Graduate Student Recruiting Program event of the National Cancer Institute. The GSRP provides senior level grad students with an introduction to the NCI and an opportunity to explore postdoctoral fellowships within the intramural research program.
Economics Graduate Students
Four Howard University graduate community members were selected as 2023 Organizing, Policy, and Equity Winter interns for the National Community Reinvestment Coalition (NCRC). According to the organization’s newsletter, “NCRC, and its grassroots member organizations create opportunities for people to build wealth, working with community leaders, policymakers, and financial institutions to advance opportunity and equity, particularly in lending, housing, and business. The Organizing, Policy, and Equity (OPE) Division of NCRC includes five departments: Research, Policy, Government Affairs, Racial Economic Equity, and Organizing.”
Eddie Gray is a doctoral student in the Department of Economics at Howard University. Eddie’s primary research interests lie at the intersection of Urban Economics, Labor Economics, and Public Economics. He is also interested in research on the racial wealth gap, entrepreneurship among Black Americans, and the emerging equity crowdfunding sector. Eddie will serve as a graduate student intern for OPE.
Britney Anglin is a recent graduate student of Howard University, where she pursued a Master of Arts in Economics. Britney obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Economics with a minor in Political Science. Her personal research focuses on crime reform on the island of Jamaica and issues that disproportionately impact the minority communities, such as unemployment. Britney will serve as a Racial Economic Equity Graduate Intern for OPE.
Peter Amponsah is a graduate student at Howard University pursuing a master’s degree in economics. Peter’s current research involves work in urban and growth economics and poverty in high-growth areas. He is currently working as a student research fellow at the Howard University Center of Excellence in Housing and Urban Research and Policy (CHURP) in the urban economics field. Peter will serve as an Organizing Graduate Intern for OPE.
Lauren Taylor is a graduate student at Howard University pursuing a Master’s degree in Economics. Lauren serves as the faculty liaison for the Graduate Economics Student Association and was recently inducted into the Omicron Epsilon Delta Honor Society. Her current research includes Urban Economics, Housing Policy, and Poverty alleviation. Lauren will serve as a Government Affairs Graduate Intern for OPE.
